Deviousness and Seniority

Many have noticed that I've begun posting the Deviousness articles and I'm happy to take any suggestions you may have for future recipients.  Simply take a moment to note me with your suggestion and why you feel they are the the deviant to end all deviants and I'll add them to our list for consideration :)
Some have also noticed that :faq29: has been updated with a suggestion form. The reasoning for this is pretty simple.  Selections are made by a group of people, not just me,  and having the information in one central location is the easiest way for us to share thoughts.  There was always a plan to move suggestions to a form, it just hadn't happened yet :)
So to recap:
1. Deviousness suggestions ->  send me a note or an email (
2. Senior suggestions - > please submit your suggestion via this

The Deviousness Award 2.0

Artists Creditpriteeboy
T he Deviousness Award, bestowed in recognition of exemplary membership and an outstanding spirit of helpfulness and mentoring within the DeviantArt community, has recently undergone a reevaluation to provide a focus and a re-definition as to just what Deviousness truly represents.
The award is given once per month to honor a deviant who has gone above and beyond in their services to the DeviantArt Community. The 189 recipients of the Award thus far have brought something to the community that was not there before their presence, and it's our duty — and honor — to publicly recognize their efforts in doing so.
Early on, Deviousness was given more than once per month to a deviant whose invo

Many of you have been in this community for a long time, but whether you’ve just joined or you’ve been a member since day one, this is your first impression of the new DeviantArt.
Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed i

Thumbnails in Comments Now Available to Everyone

Artwork: Eidetus Jungle by Farkwhad
DeviantArt is a visual site — and now it's a bit more visual! When you share a link to a deviation in a comment, it'll automatically be displayed as a thumbnail (with the option to switch back to a link).
This feature has been available to Core Members for a while, but it's in the best interest of the community to make it available to all members. We feel that all artists should be able to represent art as art, rather than just a text link.
In addition, artists whose deviations are mentioned will receive a message in your Notifications, so you'll now know when others are referring to your art.
TIP: If you prefer to share a link, just hover over the thumbnail and tap the "Link" button.

Here are just a few examples on how you can use th

Welcoming New Deviants

Starting today, we're launching an ongoing initiative aimed at increasing community spirit by identifying deviants who are good at reaching out to others, and matching them with new deviants who might benefit from a kindred guide.
Joining a new community can sometimes feel daunting -- like you’re on the outside looking in.  But we’re working on ways to make it easier for new deviants to meet others and get involved with the things that matter most to them.
If you're a deviant who often interacts with new deviants, you may receive a notification every so often. Currently, there isn't a way to opt-in to getting these notification, but you can increase your chances of receiving them by interacting with new deviants. The "New Deviants" section of the today page is a great place to start.
How It Works
We’ve selected a small group of deviants who’ve prov

When did you join DA?
I originally joined in the December of 2011. I made this account in December 2013. (Friday 13th, to be precise!)

When did you start drawing?
I've been drawing ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I only started taking it seriously in 2013. I started doing digital art in 2015.

Where did you learn to draw?
I am entirely self-taught, with the exception of Mark Crilley's YouTube tutorials and from various How-To-Draw-Manga books. I was always told by my art teachers that anime and cartoons are not art, and I'll get nowhere with it, but I sure proved them wrong!

Who are your inspirations?
My first inspiration to draw in the manga style was the anime "Tokyo Mew Mew". I always thought that the characters were really cute and well-drawn, and I was like "wow, I'd love to be able to draw like this!"
My main inspiration though was a YouTube artist called Mark Crilley. He would upload how to draw such and such every week, both real time and time lapse. People have often told me that they can tell that my style was originally inspired by his art (which is very true!) He taught me most of what I know about drawing in the manga / anime style.

Do you take commissions?
Yes, you can find all the info you need in my journals section! :)
If in doubt, just note me, and we can negotiate something.

How about requests?
Yes, but very rarely. I find them good for practicing if you are experiencing art block.
But I don't always have the time, plus I'm very forgetful. If I like your character's design, though, I may consider drawing them.

What are your tools of the trade?
For sketching I use a Staedtler Mars Micro 0.5mm mechanical pencil. I use a black eraser and mechanical pencil refills. For my photography, I use a Canon EOS 1300D.
For digital art I use a Wacom Intuos Draw with Paint.NET and Paint Tool SAI.

I've got moar questions!
That's technically not a question, but I shall cover it all in a full FAQ soon. :)

Some Useful Stuff

How (NOT) to be popular on DA! (SATIRE)WARNING: Please don't read if you're easily sensitive / triggered or if you take offense to this sort of thing.

How NOT to be popular and famous on DeviantArt (PARODY / SATIRE)
Make some art. No one wants to watch a person with an empty gallery. Make lots of it. Especially fanart. If it's a fandom that is popular, the more (in)famous you'll be. Like anime, MLP, SU, FNAF, Undertale... Especially if it's fanart with ecchi, hentai, pr0n, vore, foot fetish, inflation, bondage, preggo / Mpreg, giants, etc. Use really bad quality pencils and leave smudge marks form your eraser. Ink it in in a hurry so it looks rushed. Even better, trace all of your art and pretend that you did it yourself! If you get caught, tell them they must be wrong, threaten to report them, and write a journal saying they're harassing you. Get into big fights with them. Hide all of the comments afterwards. If you do digital art, make sure to always use MS Paint, as the quality is unlike any other,
How To Make A Secret Folder In Less Than 10 Steps!Hey, everyone! Today I'm showing you a tutorial on how to make a secret folder!
So sometimes there might be deviations you're not too proud of, maybe you like them but might be afraid that others might think they're bad, or maybe you like to mess with people as a harmless joke.
Well, I'm gonna show you how to make a secret folder that is hard to locate unless you search really hard for it!
Are you ready kids? I can't heaaaar youuuu? Oooooooooooo(kay, let's go!!!)
STEP 1: Click New Folder or go to your desired folder. For this tutorial, I decided to use an already-existing folder.

STEP 2: When you are inside of your desired folder, click on the pencil icon that says "Folder Options".

STEP 3: Go to Folder Options > Icon > Change Icon. It is outlined in a red rectangle and blue arrows in the screenshot below so that you can follow along easily.
TreePencil's Guide to AdoptablesHello! TreePencil here! Today I'm back making another (quick and slightly rushed) review/guide/tutorial!
One of my friends and watchers, BilboBabins had asked me to make in on... *drumroll*
Adoptables! So what are they? What can you do with them? How do I obtain one?  I will answer all your questions, and if I forget anything, please feel free to ask me in the comments section below!
What's an adoptable? Basically put,  an adoptable, also known as an adopt, is a design (characters, mostly chibis) made by someone else that you can purchase from them in exchange for points, cash or art. You then have the rights to the character and you can use them as your persona, your original character, fan character or in comics and stories!
What is an OTA? This means "Offer to adopt". If you see a character design any it says OTA, this means that you can offer points, cash, art or another adopt design in exchange for it.
What' does DTA mean? This means "Draw to adopt". You draw the charac

You can make it in drawing, writing or in art in general. Trust me. I know this from my own personal experience what it's like to go from nothing to decent in art and over the months, I've gotten a lot of exposure on my art! (But let me tell you, it's NOT all about the popularity... It's about enjoying what you do and the good feeling of making others happy with it.)
Circa 2008, my drawings weren't even recognisable as manga. They looked like... Well, let's just say I have nothing to compare them to, nor the words to describe them! I was told by most people I know that I was crap at drawing, and that I'd never get anywhere with it. Especially getting a career. (A few people sugar-coated the truth, but you could tell they thought th
DeviantArt terminology and lingoSo you may be new to DA, or have a parent / guardian / friend who you are showing off your art to.
But there's something...they don't quite understand. The Language and terminology that is used here.
I personally know how this feels, and I've often had to explain to them several time what something means, and it ruins the moment of showing off my art. So I'm going to teach you n00bs (jk, you're awesome!) what everything on DA means (in my own words). If I forget something, please mention it in the comments, and I will add it in later.

HTML, Linking, Emojis and PLZ Accounts Made EasyHello there,  friends, watchers and passers-by! I don't know about you, but when I type, or when I'm doing up my profile, I really like to try and make it look pretty! And for a long time I had no clue how to do that! It can be very difficult to master, especially when you're new to DA. So here is how to do all these things immediately without all the fuss!
If you would like to make your type bold, then all you have to do is use the code < b > without the spaces and close it off with < /b >. If you only want some words to be bold but not others, just add the code < / b > at the beginning of the word (without the spaces) and < /b > at the end of the word. Please note that you must always start any code off with <> and always end it with </>
For example: < b > YOUR TEXT HERE < / b > without spaces in the code. Why don't you give it a try?
It should look like this: YOUR TEXT HERE

How To Shine Bright Like The Star You Are!Hints and tips on how to shine bright like the star you are!
1. Constructive Comments: Comment on other people's art. A lot. Don't just say "cool" or "nice", but instead, leave genuinely meaningful comments. For example, you could say something along the lines of: "I really like this art piece. I love how striking the cors are, and how they compliment each other. I can see all of the hard work and effort that must have gone into this. Great job, keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing more of your art!"
When you say it this way, people are more likely to be pleased with themselves (and you) and know how well they're doing. Of course, a little constructive criticism never went astray. Instead of calling someone's art crappy or bad, you could say something like this: "I really like what you've done here! If I may, I would like to suggest something to you for future reference: try making the head a little smaller so it is in better proportion to the body. I can see h
Mistakes I Made As A Newbie To DeviantArt!At some point or another, we were all new to DA. We joined, made our first ever accounts, posted our first deviation, and boy were we ecstatic when we got our first point, fav, watch, llama, mention, gift, etc.
But most of us at some point have made mistakes as a newbie to DA. I'm going to write about the ones I personally made.
1. Commenting on my own deviations about the drawing, instead of in the description.
2. Typing : llama : (without spaces ) thinking that was how I gave out llama badges.
3. Comment on my favourite artworks more than once within a week, even though the original artist was inactive or never replied.
4. Clicking on a drawing similar to my own (I used to reference fanart back in the day), saying something along the lines of "This is really good, please check mine out!", and posting a link to my own gallery.
5. Asking people to watch me back if I watched them.
6. Using bad grammar, spelling and punctuation, just because it was quicker to type.
7. Not knowing how to

Hi there, I'm TreePencil (don't ask where my questionable username came from, it's totally random, hehe!) but you can just call me Eve. It's nice to meet you! I'm just your average pansexual 22 year old, self-taught artist, who loves to draw! I also have Asperger's syndrome. I currently reside in Ireland. :la:

I love making new friends and watching people whose art I like! Please feel free to have a chat with me while you're stopping by, I am always online, and I always try and answer every message I get! I'm definitely not as unapproachable as you may think, but as intimidating as I am, I don't bite... much! :giggle:

Seriously though, all joking aside, if you ever need somebody to talk to about anything at all, you can always come and talk to me and I'll help however I can! I always reply, even if it takes a while! If you like, you can leave a comment on my profile or send me a private note. I'm here for you!

Hey You! Yeah, You!

I'd like to offer you something...a hug!

:glomp:  :huggle: :tighthug: :cuddle: :dalove: :pat:

You deserve it! Forget all those chain mails that say you need (insert number of hugs) to be truly loved, all you need is ONE person to show their appreciation for you to know that you are beautiful and of amazing worth! I just wanted you to know that no matter what, you are important, you deserve a smile on your face, and happiness in your heart.

This message was brought to you by TreePencil, just a random friend who truly cares!

Have a splendid day / night wherever you are!

Oh, and just so you know... yes, you may thank me for stuff on my profile! I don't find it annoying at all! I actually like the fact that people acknowledge that I've done something for them and that they are grateful! Please just keep in mind that if I gave you something like a llama, favourite, watch, gift and so on, it means that I think you deserve it and you are very welcome!
